Announcing New Door-Sized Sheets

Lamin-Art's Premium Wood Prints collection has always featured the most realistic reproductions of wood species available in high-pressure decorative laminate. In fact, we've been told numerous times that it is difficult to tell our wood reproductions apart from the real wood veneer. With a wide variety of species, including the rare and endangered Rosewood and Ebony, the unique Koa and Olivewood, and contemporary classics like Cherry, Oak and Maple, Lamin-Art's wood grains are a natural fit for architectural door manufacturers looking to offer their clients outstanding value. And now we've made it even easier for them to specify Lamin-Art Premium Wood Prints, by offering special 3' X 7' and 3' X 8' sheets specifically designed to minimize material waste in door manufacturing.

Lamin-Art's high-pressure decorative laminates can offer door manufacturers the appearance of natural wood at a fraction of the cost of real veneers-saving money for themselves and for their clients. And over the long-term, the superior durability of high-pressure laminate means doors are easy to maintain and can better withstand typical wear and abuse, preserving their natural beauty for years.

A minimum order of 50 sheets is required when requesting special 3' X 7' and 3' X 8' door sizes. Orders must be of an identical pattern number. A two week lead time also applies for all door size orders, and returns cannot be accepted. Products that are available for order in door sizes are noted in our Stock List and on www.laminart.com with a full triangle (p).

A New Face for Radio

At Emerson College in Boston, MA, the college's radio station, WERS-FM, isn't just an extra-curricular activity, it is a non-stop learning and performance facility that ties with the college's radio specialization within its Visual and Media Arts Department. When it came time to refresh the look of the radio station's shopworn facilities in 2008, the college wanted to create a fun and entertaining environment that reflected the station's format, that could serve as a "must-see" stop on college tours of prospective students, and that would stand up to the 24/7 activity of its student broadcasters and performance artists.

Darlow Christ Architects chose Lamin-Art's Pearlescence for the project because it evoked a sense of warmth and provided a sheen and texture which gave the space a more contemporary feel. 2406-Gold Leaf in Textured finish was selected for millwork, storage cabinets, production consoles and other areas, while the addition of Oyster Shield High-Wear Protection provided maximum durability for these high-wear surfaces. "With Pearlescence, the station literally has a new sparkle. It's brighter, fresher, friendlier, and the textural shimmer of the product adds a sense of depth to the color," says Peter Darlow, principal of Darlow Christ Architects, Inc. "The client is extremely happy and the students are too, because the station now has a look as fresh, new, and interesting as its sound."

New Identities for Some Old Favorites

Two of the 6 finish options we now offer for our recently expanded Pearlescence Solid Colors collection have actually been with us for quite some time. Our customers have come to appreciate the unique brushed-metal appearance of our Chrysalis and Catalyst finishes. But until now, they were only offered for a select number of our Pearlescence Solid Colors and therefore presented as stand-alone collections. Now, these favorite finishes are available for specification on any of our 50 Pearlescence Solid Colors.

In order to make specification simpler and avoid duplicate pattern numbers and names, we have chosen to merge the items that previously made up our Chrysalis and Catalyst collections into our expanded Pearlescence Solid Color collection. As a result, numbers and names have changed for your favorite Chrysalis and/or Catalyst items. Our friendly Customer Service representatives and Architectural Representatives are available to help you identify and properly specify these items with their new numbers and names. In addition, we've also developed a handy cross-reference guide to assist you in your selection. You can download it here, or from the Technical Information section of our website at any time.

With the addition of Chrysalis, Catalyst, and the new Wisp and Crisscross finish options to our Pearlescence Solid Colors collection, you now have 300 choices for creating eye-catching interior surfaces. To learn more, visit www.pearlescence.com.

Enabling Green: Tip #9

This month, rather than provide a few "Green Tips", we thought we'd concentrate on another color that needs our attention...blue, as in the color of water. We use a lot of it in the hot summer sun whether it be to refresh our lawns and landscapes, fill swimming pools, or wash vehicles, among other activities. Here are some summer water conservation tips to ensure that there is enough of the "blue stuff" for everyone:

1. Use an automatic sprinkler system for your lawn that can help you regulate when and for how long it waters the grass. Outdoor faucets can flow at rates as high as 300 gallons per hour, and if not monitored, can create lots of wasted water.

2. Position your sprinkler so it only waters the lawn, not the sidewalk or pavement. Also try and avoid sprinkling when it's windy as wind tends to evaporate water quickly before quenching your lawn's thirst.

3. Mow less frequently during the late summer months as mowing causes more stress requiring more water.

4. Landscape with plants that require less water.

5. If possible, purchase a rain barrel and use the water it collects to water lawns, plants and flowers.
